Tigerlily Mask: Paper Maché & Acrylic Paints

Concept:
Tigerlily is a hypothetical character from a whimsical children’s theatrical production about a forest of magical animals that feature plant-like features.

As such, Tigerlily is a combination of a tiger and tiger lily flowers. Its ears and what would’ve been tufts of fur around its face mimic the shapes and coloration of tiger lily petals. Likewise, its whiskers mimic the tiger lily flower stamen, where pollen is given off.

I was inspired to create this when I was stuck between two creative directions: I either wanted to make a mask inspired by my cat, Charlotte, or I wanted to experiment with something floral. I decided to marry feline and floral themes together. With something so fantastical, I leaned into the whimsy of it, excited by the challenge of combining the colors, patterns, and silhouettes of a tiger and the tiger lily into one cohesive character and mask.
